Name: Caskadag
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Alternative/Beastite (Cameloid)
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Tan, Orange, Brown, and Black
Biology: The Caskadags were a tall, sentient species hailing from an unidentified desert-covered world. They were camel-like in nature, although they lacked any kind of hair. They were bipedal, and while we haven’t seen what a Caskadag’s body looks like from below the neck, it appears to be rather human-like. Their heads were large and slightly pointed. They had high cheek bones and a somewhat wide mouth that seemed to nearly segment their heads into two distinct sections, meeting in a ridge on the back of their head. Their chins were a much darker coloration than the area above their mouths. They lacked a physical nose, but did have a set of small, widespread nostrils. Their eyes were small and solid black, and they had a very distinct brow.
Because they evolved on a humid world seemingly lacking much food or water, they possessed two stomachs. This allowed them maintain and process nutrients for much longer than most species, and they could go extended periods of time without requiring food or water. It would seem that at least part of their diet consisted of cacti. Their skin has also most likely adapted to tolerate extremely dry, hot environments (and potentially sandstorms). The Caskadags had lifespans of well over 100 years, and they also had the ability to speak Galactic Basic without issue.
Lore: Nothing is really known about the Caskadags people or their homeworld. They were most likely expert survivalists (at least at one point in their history), as they could withstand harsh climates and go for long periods of time without sustenance. Most of the Caskadags we have seen have been assassins or crime lords, so it’s possible that their society or economy was hinged around a criminal empire similarly to that of the Pykes or Hutts. Other than that, we only know that they didn’t start appearing frequently in the galaxy until sometime after the fall of the Empire, which could indicate that they originated in the depths of the Outer Rim or even the edge of the Unknown Regions.
Continuity: The Caskadags have only appeared in Canon, introduced very early on via The Force Awakens and making consistent appearances across the franchise ever since.
Unexplored: As with most of the newer sentient species, the first thing that should be established is our list of crucial worldbuilding traits, including their homeworld, society, economy, unique traditions, and general galactic history. From there, it would be interesting to explore whether they have some sort of small criminal empire, whether they are located in something like Hutt space and being part of a criminal society is just natural, or whether the Caskadags we’ve seen so far have just been outliers of a much more peaceful and humble species. It would also be interesting to see them in different professions, possibly even something that would require them to utilize survivalist abilities like a acting as a guide or explorer. From there, it’s really open to take them wherever you want, as they aren’t ever really expanded when they make their background appearances.
Additional Notes: As far as “camel species” go, I definitely prefer the Caskadags’ design to something much more literal or generically anthropomorphized like the H’drachi. Although, like so many of the Sequel Era species, they sadly were not introduced with much lore-related substance, though others many have gradually gained some with time. Still, we have received a lot more biological information on the Caskadag than I would say most, so that’s one more thing we can use to distinguish them from the onslaught of other new species introduced within this past decade or so.
