Advozse

Last Updated: 09/06/2025

Name: Advozse (singular) or Advozsec (plural)

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human/Reptilian/Alternative

Homeworld: Riflor

Coloration: Tan, Pink, Purple, Orange, and/or Yellow

Biology: The Advozsec were a herbivorous sentient species hailing from the lush, but extremely hazardous planet of Riflor. They had approximately the same body shape or frame as the average Human or near-Human species, but still with a few noticeable differences. They were slightly shorter than the average humanoid, coming in with an average height of around 1.5 to 1.8 meters max. Their skin was also substantially thicker than most (due to the varying extreme heats and humidity of their homeworld) and they generally had more natural wrinkles, regardless of age. Their hands and feet (each possessing four digits) were also noticeably thicker than that of other near-Human species, with long, pointed nails protruding from the ends of them.

Their head, however, was where they stood out most. It was much larger than the average Humans. They had no facial or head hair, nor hair anywhere else on their body. Their head itself was bulbous and wide, possessing many bumps and ridges. While they were strictly vegetarians, they had a mouth full of sharp, pointed teeth, believed to possibly be used for sawing through sticks and branches. Their noses were flat and wide, with a ridge running right down the middle. Their eyes were incredibly large and bulbous, usually taking on a solid black, gray, or red coloration. They evolved this way to combat the thick volcanic ash that would often, sporadically fill the air on Riflor, inadvertently giving them phenomenal eye sight thanks to the murky or dark environments (which they are actually much more comfortable in).

Most noticeably, of course, was the singular horn protruding from the top of their foreheads. The skin on their head often appeared grouped up or even pulled away from the horn, but the horn itself always remained securely attached to their skull. These thick horns were usually a rigid black or brown in coloration, and could stand anywhere from 7.5 to 15 centimeters in height. In addition, they also had flat, long, pointed ears that hugged close to the sides of their heads.

Because the Advozsec evolved from a reptilian creature native to Riflor, they retained a few of their ancestor’s reptilian traits, commonly classified as reptomammalians during the “modern age.”. One of these biological traits was their inability to process or digest any sort of meat. This meant that all Advozsec were strictly vegetarians, and consumed fairly large quantities of vegetation daily. It is still unclear why most (but not all) Advozsec have pointed teeth which are usually design for serrating, but it does not seem to inhibit their herbivorous ways. Because of their diets, they were usually very lean, making it rare to find an Advozse who was overweight. Their health was also considered much better and their lifespan was significantly longer than most other similar species. Finally, Adcozsec had a noticeably low natural Midi-chlorian count, meaning very few every reached the level of “Force Sensitivity.”

Lore: The majority of the Advozsec were a relatively peaceful people, especially those who lived on Riflor. But due to the planet’s unstable climate, frequent earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and generally intensely humid temperatures, all native Advozsec were incredibly resilient and trained to survive from birth. Despite the strange climate and low light levels, their world was covered with an assortment of vegetation, their main source of food. If an Advozse moved offworld, they would need to make sure that they relocated to some place with a suitable food supply, and they generally preferred dense jungle planets because of the plentiful shade they offered.

No matter how many times they rebuilt or reinforced their structures, the intense earthquakes and eruptions of Riflor would eventually damage or destroy their cities and homes. This trained the Advozsec to become very skilled builders, but also have a very gloomy and pessimistic outlook on life, strongly acknowledging the fact that everything in life is temporary. Most Advozsec who were born and raised on Riflor were also greedy and tended to hoard as many material possessions as possible, while surprisingly holding little actual attachment to them. They also didn’t believe in creating long term plans or goals, and generally hated the idea of commitment, making them seem unreliable in the eyes of others. Of course, the many other Advozsec who were born and raised far removed from Riflor held no such sentiments.

Regardless, by their very nature and instincts, Advozsec were very paranoid creatures, and tended to not trust or build relationships easily. One of the few things all Advozsec put value into, however, was their names. The common Advozsec always had two names, although neither of them necessarily had to be familial names. On the other hand, powerful, famous, and wealthy Advozsec only went by one name because they considered themselves to be unique and recognizable.

Example: Kol Nurn (common Advozse name) vs. Tulak (influential Advozse name)

The Republic were the first to come across Riflor and the Advozsec during their expansion in the centuries before the Clone Wars. The Advozsec quickly joined the Republic and were given a place on the Galactic Senate. They were also supplied with more advanced technologies and building materials, allowing their cities to at least stay intact after the random natural catastrophic events. They were originally major supporters of the Republic as they considered themselves indebted to them, but of course, they had a hard time with commitment and soon grew to disapprove of the Republic’s ways.

When the Clone Wars began, the Advozsec used it as an opportunity to attempt and succeed from the Republic and join the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS). However, the Republic saw the succession coming and immediately deployed a number of Jedi and Clones to occupy the planet and keep them at bay. Because of this, the Advozsec remained a part of the Republic until it’s collapse, but it was well known that their people were strong supporters of the Separatist movement (despite not being able to actually contribute anything). The Republic’s hold on the world did begin to diminish over time as more and more troops were pulled away to other battlefronts, but it was made clear that anyone associated with the Republic were not openly welcomed on Riflor.

When the Empire rose to power, they tightened their grip on the Advozsec people fairly substantially. Their economy, which up until this point had been driven almost entirely by the planet’s rich mining industry, was thrown into disarray as the Empire seized all mining operations and barred the local government from intervening. Their government officials were also slowly replaced by Imperial officials, who began to exploit the Advozsec people. Still, the Advozsec generally supported the Empire, as they saw it as everything the Republic could never be. And because they ultimately longed for stability more over anything else, they approved of the peace and security that they saw the Empire bringing to the galaxy.

A few anti-Imperial demonstrations were launched, and subsequently put down. But most of the Advozsec who disagreed with the Empire simply left their homeworld to join their brethren elsewhere. It was very common for an Advozse to become a pirate, smuggler, or mercenary, but also just as common for them to suddenly change teams or even up and leave their current lifestyle behind, as they could never commit to one faction or leader. Still, they were almost all rugged survivalists with a pension for combat and the attitude that made sure even the toughest jobs got done. (It was also very uncommon, but not unheard of for an Advozse to have the ability to manipulate the Force, with at least one becoming a Jedi and one becoming a Sith throughout galactic history. Generally, however, their low baseline Midi-chlorian levels were a contributing factor to this occurrence.)

Surprisingly, contrary to their peaceful roots, there was one sect of Advozsec who completely broke away from their people and defied the galaxy’s general consensus of the species. The “Advozse Hegemony” was an expansionist group, almost akin to a cult, who’s goal was simply to conquer and spread their influence. They were incredibly xenophobic, despising all non-Advozse, and brutally slaughtering anyone who stood in their way. They had surprisingly high numbers, although they only operated for a rather short time during the Old Republic (Cold War) era. By the time of the Clone Wars, they were but a distant memory.

Continuity: The Advozsec first appeared in the original Star Wars film (now titled A New Hope), and while most of the information above is not fully Canon, they themselves remained canonized due to their inclusion in that film. Interestingly enough, idea that they are pessimistic, selfish, and paranoid has become canonized recently, which is more than most species have received as far as Canon characterization is concerned. Additionally, in Star Wars Legends, Riflor was also invaded by the Yuuzhan Vong, who uses a bio-virus to kill all the vegetation on the world, forcing the remainder of the surviving Advozsec to starve to death if they couldn’t escape offworld. Due to this brutal act of genocide, the Advozsec nearly went extinct, save for the few smugglers and pirates of their kind spread throughout the galaxy. Thankfully, this part of their history is not and can no longer be Canon.

Unexplored: So, the Advozsec have definitely been explored extensively in Legends, even if they were dealt a short hand during the Old Republic Era. However, in Canon we know next to nothing about them. So while it would be fairly easy to simply canonize most of the information above, and will most likely be what they choose to do should the species ever be revisited, you can also take them in a new direction. We were given a clean slate, so you can always just roll with it.

Of course, we need to make sure to cover all of the base species world building aspects including the following: society, government, economy and exports, galactic involvement and allegiances, culture, traditions, technology, and mannerisms. You can also expand them into other eras such as the High Republic or even the Sequel Era. How would they have interacted with the New Republic or First Order (since they weren’t annihilated by the Yuuzhan Vong this time around). With Canon, as long as you stay within the new (but fairly loose) boundaries set up by he universe, you can essentially make the Advozsec whoever you want. At least until they receive more official attention and expansion!

Additional Notes: So the Advozsec are by no means my favorite of the original aliens introduced in the Cantina in Episode IV, but their EU history and even the lore surrounding their homeworld is fairly unique. Individuals born on Riflor may unfortunately turn out to be fairly one note given what’s been established, but the other Advozsec out among the stars have much more potential for complex personal growth. Plus, a species who chooses to join the Separatists during the Clone Wars is always fascinating to look at and explore further (even if they were barred from actually doing so).
