Ikkrukkian

Last Updated: 1/25/2024

Name: Ikkrukkian (also Ikkrukki)

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Ikkrukk

Coloration: White, Cream, or Yellow

Biology: The Ikkrukkians were a humanoid species very similar to that of average Humans, although they do have a few very distinctive traits. Their skin was often uniquely cream or pale in coloration, and they possessed creases, lines, and other wrinkles all across their body, usually seen in uniform patterns. Aside from this, however, they had the same general size, height, and build of the average Human. One thing they didn’t share with Humans was their lifespans, which was approximately 300 years (or possibly even longer) for the average Ikkrukkian.

Ikkrukkians had heads slightly taller than most near-Humans, sporting two distinctive stump-shaped bony growths on their forehead, almost taking on the appearance of “tree-trunks” under their skin. Their noses were flat and had a crease running down the middle. They had sharp cheekbones and a naturally furrowed brow. Their ears were pointed and hung flat against their head. The eyes of the Ikkrukkians were also unique, with a solid black sclera and blue, yellow, or orange irises, although other colors could be possible. Some were also seen with black lips, although there is a very good chance this was simply some sort of cultural makeup and not a natural trait. Ikkrukkians could have brown or black hair, which was confirmed to grey with age. They could also speak Basic, and it was also likely that they were reproductively compatible with Humans or other near-Human species.

Lore: This species has been referred to almost exclusively as the Ikkrukkians around the time of the rise of First Order, and much more commonly as the Ikkrukki during the High Republic era, although these terms do appear to be used rather interchangeably. The Ikkrukkians were long-discovered members of the greater galactic landscape, Ikkrukk seemingly residing within the jurisdiction of the Galactic Republic, although it has never been confirmed whether the Ikkrukkians actually held a seat in the Republic Senate or not.

They seemed to be a rather well-to-do species, but closely guarded their wealth and resources in shielded cities. They were rather advanced technologically, developing their own weaponry, droids, and potentially even vehicles. It seemed rare to spot an Ikkrukkian out and about in the rest of the galaxy, but they did leave Ikkrukk from time-to-time. Their long lifespans ensured that they were each experienced in a plethora of skills, most likely adding to the Ikkrukkians rather independently gained success.

Ikkrukk and its people were touched by the influence of the Nihil during the days of the High Republic. Burnium Ro, the descendant of Marchion Ro a.k.a. The Eye of the Nihil, resided on Ikkrukk as a warlord during the Galactic Civil War. He implemented many of their old ideals despite the Nihil being disbanded for quite some time, much to the disapproval of the Ikkurkkian natives. Grand Moff Tarkin took note of this, and dispatched an agent to eliminate Ro and his regime, but the outcome of this is unknown. Ro was nowhere to be seen by the time of the Cold War, so more than likely he was deposed and disposed of, although no evidence of an Imperial occupation exists either.

Following the destruction of both the Hosnian System and Starkiller Base, the First Order began to crack down on independent worlds with strong militias that could pose a sizable threat if they united. One of these worlds was Ikkrukk, which the First Order assaulted without mercy. They had agents on the inside who helped to weaken the defenses of the planet’s capital, Grail City by forming a pro-First Order movement. This left the Ikkrukkian leadership vulnerable, but thanks to the help of Resistance forces, they were able to stave off their fascist invaders as well as the loyalist faction among their population. The Ikkrukkians would join the Resistance following this event, presumably until the fall of the First/Final Order at the Battle of Exegol.

Surprisingly, not a lot is known about the Ikkrukkians’ general culture, society, government, or economy as they preferred to remain reclusive. We do know that they dwelled in small cities as much of their planet consisted of harsh, icy, uninhabitable tundras and mountainous regions. They had developed their own unique brand of technology, which may have driven their economy, although it was highly likely that they had a rather fruitful mining industry.

The Ikkrukkians themselves were fierce warriors when need be, but were generally very docile, level-headed, and approachable. They had a very distinctive style of dress, heavily leaning into the “goth” aesthetic. This included silver and gold jewelry, ring noses, spiked accessories, black lipstick (which may or may not have actually been their natural pigmentation), and fingerless gloves/gauntlets. The Ikkrukkians long lifespans meant that they lived through many major galactic events, although whether any of them really cared or not is completely undetermined.

Legends/Canon: The Ikkrukkians have made a number of appearances in Star Wars Canon, originating in 2018’s Poe Dameron comic run and popularized in The High Republic thanks to the fan favorite Jedi, the “Blade of Bardotta” himself, Porter Engle.

Unexplored: As far as species introduced exclusively within Star Wars Canon go, the Ikkrukkians have been expanded upon more than most. However, they still remain rather mysterious and secluded so there is a ton of room for further exploration. We haven’t actually seen how Ikkrukk was faring during the High Republic, so there will probably come a point when the Nihil make their triumphant arrival. Exploring the mindset of an individual Ikkrukkian has also not been taken full advantage of. Between Grist and Porter Engle (the first 2 named Ikkrukkians introduced), we still haven’t seen a lot of what makes the Ikkrukkians unique.

We also haven’t seen what most of the planet is like outside of Grail City, so it is unclear if all of the Ikkrukkians lived in other domed cities, or if there were some less civilized mountain dwellers or nomads. It would definitely make sense for the planet to have a large mining industry, as they appear to develop all of their own technology, but we have no information surrounding this, nor their overall economy. Were they ever a part of the Republic Senate? And how involved were they with the Resistance during the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker? There are definitely some important bits of lore that could use further elaboration, and it is very likely that they will appear again in upcoming Star Wars media.

Additional Notes: The Ikkrukkians have really grown on me, especially with the introduction of Jedi Master (and master chef) Porter Engle. As we will probably see them in the future, expect further updates to this article. Come back periodically to learn more about this Canon species with a ton of potential!
