Eirrauc

Name: Eirrauc

Humanoid: No

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Eirrauus

Coloration: Brown or Red

Biology: The Eirraucs were a bizarre species originating from the desert planet of Eirraucs. Adult Eirraucs generally stood around 2 meters tall, although due to the fact that they were naturally hunched over with steep joints, their true length is difficult to determine. Their skin was leathery in texture, and was usually brown, red, or pink in coloration, helping them blend in with desert landscapes. They possessed little body fat, and while they were bony in appearance, they did possess at least some level of musculature. Eirraucs were omnivorous, consuming the plant and bug life found on Eirrauus, as well as scavenging for the carrion and corpses of those who had succumbed to the desert.

Eirraucs had three sets of arms, six in total, as well as a single set of triple jointed legs. Their legs were incredibly long with what could be considered two separate sets of knees. Right above their ankles, their shins became rather large, and they had four-toed feet. Their arms were long and thin, sporting noticeable muscles and veins. Two sets emerged from their shoulders, while the third, seemingly shorter pair of limbs extended from somewhere on their torso. The elbows on their top-back set of arms were incredibly pointed, and they had four fingers on each of their hands. The Eirraucs were incredibly fast runners, galloping by utilizing their two lower sets of arms. Because of this they could also leap incredible distances.

The Eirraucs had arched backs and long necks well over a meter in length. Their head possessed little in the way of a chin, and instead simply served as an extension of their neck. They had four eyes in total, two on either side of their head. These eyes appeared to be solid black in coloration, and posed a rather large blind spot in the center of the Eirrauc’s field of view. The openings to their ear canals is also set back behind their eyes. They had a nose-like crest on the front of their faces, with a pair of exposed nostrils sitting directly underneath. Their mouths were more-or-less a gaping hole at the bottom of their face, and no teeth have ever been observed. It is unclear if they can naturally speak Basic, although due to the structure of their mouths, it is rather unlikely.

Lore: We know next to nothing about the Eirraucs. They dwelled in cities found on the desert planet Eirraucs, and as far as we know, it was rather uncommon for them to travel offworld, much less move away permanently. The species was also extremely peaceful, and in some cases even pacifistic, rarely if ever willing to take the life of anyone or anything. This meant that their meat came exclusively from things that had already died. This didn’t mean that certain Eirraucs couldn’t be fierce fighters, as their nimble movements, great agility, and musclebound bodies made them a threat to be wary of.

Sometime during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire invaded Eirraaus. Between their peaceful lifestyles and lack of defensive tools or weapons, they had no way to fight back against the overwhelming forces and were quickly conquered and enslaved. For a time, they were helpless slaves of the Empire, however, a few Eirraucs did eventually come up with a plan of escape. While not many were able to get away from the Empire’s grasp, the few freed Eirraucs traveled to an unidentified safeworld where they would hide out for the remainder of the war. It is unknown when or if the majority of the species was freed, nor if the Rebellion or New Republic ever stepped in. At least one Eirrauc was also a Jedi during the Clone Wars, although we do not know if the species as a whole was aligned with the Galactic Republic at any point.

Legends/Canon: The Eirraucs do not exist in Star Wars Canon at the moment.

Unexplored: As always, the lore of species exclusive to Star Wars Legends is much more malleable when it comes to adapting them into Canon. However, if you want to maintain their Legends lore roots, here are questions you can ask to expand upon that. For starters, what is their established origin? When did they develop sentience, and what kind of species did they evolve from? Does Eirraaus have multiple biomes, or is it entirely desert-like, and was that a result of some past cataclysm or simply how the planet has always appeared? Do they primarily dwell in well established cities or more village-like communities, and what was their level of advancements as compare to other similar species found throughout the galaxy?

Were the Eirraucs a well known species, or did the majority of the galaxy have no knowledge of them? What was their political landscape like, and were they ever affiliated with groups like the Galactic Republic? What sort of society and culture did they boats, and did they have any outstanding traditions, religions, or exclusive practices? What led them to maintain a pacifist lifestyle? Was it simply tradition or some tragic event in their species’ past? Did they have any major export and what fueled their economy? And did the Empire invade due to the potential for manpower their species possessed, or was it due to some valuable resource or even Eirraaus’ location comparative to popular trade or hyperspace routes?

What was their “safeworld” called, what was it like, and was it a planet we know of or somewhere new? Approximately how many Eirraucs were able to escape Imperial grasp and fled offworld? Did any abandon their peaceful ways and side with the Rebellion, or did they remain away from the action until the end of the war? Were the remainder of the Eirraucs ever liberated, or did they have to wait for the collapse of the Empire for freedom to arrive? Did they join the New Republic following all of these traumatic events? If maintaining the Legends timeline, were they continually plagued by the Imperial Remnant or any other iteration of the evil regime? And if adapting to Canon, did they avoid any involvement with the Cold War, or were they once again subjugated by the First Order? There is a plethora of things to explore with the lore and history surrounding the Eirraucs.

Additional Notes: The Eirraucs actually turned out to be incredibly fascinating. I really like the unique design, and there’s a ton of potential here! I pray that we see them, or at the very least an iteration of them, returns to Star Wars Canon soon. I’m not confident that they would translate well into live action, but at the very least they would be fun to see in a comic, animated series, video game, book (although I hope we get further illustrations regardless). At the very least, I want more fans to learn about species like these so that they can include them in their future fan art or fan fics!
