Name: Arthurian
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Arthuria
Coloration: Gray or Blue
Biology: Arthurians were a species very closely related to standard Humans, possessing the same general height, build, proportions, and features. Their skin was a distinctive blue color, much paler in shade compared to species like the Chiss, Pantorans, or even Aruzans. Their hair was often gray or silver in coloration, and their eyes were rather large and have been observed possessing golden irises.
The biggest distinction from other humanoids, however, was the Arthurians’ anatomically unique hands. Their palms possessed taste buds, while their tongues did not. These taste buds were very sensitive, and as such Arthurians wore specially crafted gloves at all times outside of eating. This caused them to be slow eaters, as they required supple time to touch and caress their food before consuming it. Along with a fantastic sense of taste, the Arthurians were also believed to have keen eyesight. Their lifespans were unknown, but they could speak Galactic Basic Standard, albeit usually with what would be described as a perpetually formal tone or cadence.
Lore: The Arthurians heavily valued formality and etiquette, easily becoming offended when their traditions were broken, even when the perpetrators were non-Arthurians. They placed much emphasis on colors, especially in regards to their clothing, with white only allowed to be worn by the most important Arthurian authorities and dignitaries. They generally wore very mute, pastel colors and seemed to have an aversion to flashy, gaudy clothing. They also wore special gloves at nearly all times, protecting the delicate taste buds on their hands (as mentioned above).
The Arthurians did not believe in establishing eye contact unless they were directly speaking with that person, and took great offense to unsolicited glances. They were also highly insulted when offered any form of dining utensil, as they only ate with their bare hands and utensils prohibited them from enjoying their meals. Overall, they came across as a very prideful race who expected all other species to be well aware of their unique practices and traditions.
Of course, this didn’t come without its basis, as the Arthurians were presented as a very rich and powerful people. They were notoriously neutral for most of their existence, only finally considering joining the Galactic Republic and gaining a spot in the Republic Senate after the Clone Wars was well underway. The reasoning behind this, oddly enough, is that they simply deemed the Confederacy of Independent Systems’ methods to be too crude and uncivilized for their liking, preferring the aesthetic and pristine nature of the Republic. Arthurian delegates planned to meet with Senator Padmé Amidala and negotiate their place within the Republic, much to the disapproval of the CIS. The outcome of these interactions has yet to be fully revealed, but it did indicate that the Arthurians held some sort of strong galactic presence.
Continuity: The Arthurians were introduced within the in current Star Wars Canon, and remain exclusive to it.
Unexplored: Clearly the Arthurians were very powerful politically, but we don’t know how or why they achieved this power. Did they have some sort of bolstered military? Has the idea that they were incredibly wealthy or had some sort of rare valuable export been taken to the extreme? Maybe they were influential artists, speakers, or architects? We really don’t know, but this would be something fantastic to explore.
It would also be interesting to explore Arthuria further. Does it bear an abundance of resources such as beautiful plants, rare animals, or valuable minerals? Maybe it sports some pristine architecture? Is it barren and natural, or a much more built up city-planet? Are the Arthurians the only sentient denizens, is their population bountiful or dwindling? What was their state of their interplanetary and galactic economy? How was their society structured, and how did they handle their rather neutral galactic political stance? These questions and more can be expanded upon to make the Arthurians something truly special, as an incredibly civilized neutral system doesn’t just pop up every day.
Additional Notes: I think there’s enough detail here to make the Arthurians fascinating. We definitely don’t really need any more blue skinned humanoids in Star Wars, but the whole taste bud thing, along with their neutrality and honestly ridiculous reason for picking a side, makes them more than stand out among an oversaturated market. I’m also curious about the name, as it definitely leads most people’s minds instantly to something like the tale of King Arthur. Was the name just a coincidence (I highly doubt it), or will they share further ties to different aspects of the real life Arthurian legends as they are explored more in Canon (IF they are ever explored more in Canon).
