Name: Heptooinian
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human/Beast (Canine)
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Gray or Light Blue
Biology: The Heptooinians were a fairly human-like species possessing some rather unique canine features not found on many other sentient species in Star Wars Canon. Their height, build, and some general features are essentially the same as the average Human, standing between 1.7 and 2 meters in height and possessing five-fingered hands. Their skin has been observed to be gray or grayish-blue, and appears to be a somewhat wrinkled, felt-like texture.
The Heptooinians face had components that gave it an almost canine-human hybrid-like appearance. Their mouths were wide and nearly lipless. They had a “V” shaped ridge on the front of their face in place of a visible nose/nostrils. Their eyes are set rather wide apart, with dark blue/purple sclerae and bright, almost glowing light blue irises. So far they have only been observed with fairly long black hair parted in the middle, but it is unclear if this is the standard or simply one of many colors and styles. Their ears were also pointed and drooped down from the side of their head.
Lore: Nothing has yet to be revealed about the Heptooinians. The only information we can glean from their appearances is that all known instances so far were seen at Canto Bight, Cantonica. This could insinuate that they were a rather rich species, although it is possible this could have been a unique case as well. The Heptooinians have only been seen during the Cold War so far, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t also exist during other eras and wars.
Legends/Canon: The Heptooinians are exclusive to the Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: Since most of their “lore” above is speculation at best, almost everything requires some expansion. What is their homeworld and where is it located within the grander scale of the galaxy? Have the Heptooinians played a role in any of the major galactic events, or been a part of groups like the Galactic Republic, Confederacy of Independent Systems, or New Republic? And when was the species first discovered and/or integrated into the greater galactic landscape?
Further delving into their personal lore, do the Heptooinians have any unique traditions, religions, or practices that make them stand out among other similar species? What is their native language, and could they easily speak Basic? What was the root of their economy, and did they have any special exports, whether produce, mine-ables, textiles, technology, spices, etc.? And how was their societal and political infrastructure situated? Answering all of these would definitely help to differentiate them from their new Canon alien species peers, and give them a memorable identity all of their own.
Additional Notes: This is still one of my favorite of the many named species introduced in the Canto Bight scene (there are quite a few unnamed ones I do like more though) in The Last Jedi. I hope to see more of them, whether animated or live action, so keep an eye out for them in future Star Wars projects!
