Halaisi

Last Updated: 12/1/2023

Name: Halaisi

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Halais

Coloration: Green

Biology: The Halaisi were an incredibly near-human species that could sometimes be found throughout the Star Wars galaxy. They resembled the average human, however, they possessed green or greenish-yellow pigmentation. They were also known for their bright golden eyes. Traits that may or may not be biological in nature include blue lips, upper eyelids, fingernails, and what may be a form of organic head crest. These features are currently believed to be removable, and the Halaisi may actually be naturally bald, but this has yet to be confirmed either way. They could speak Basic, and as the only known instance was Jedi, we know they possessed a moderate to high natural midi-chlorian levels.

Lore: Nothing is known yet about the Halaisi as a species. We have only seen one, a Jedi Consular named Rig Nema, who was (as most Jedi are) not a very good representation of her species as a whole. She did speak with a noticeable accent, which could be gleaned from her people or simply from her Jedi Master, this has yet to be determined.

Legends/Canon: The Halaisi were recently identified in Star Wars Canon (although the design technically originated from art created in the late EU days).

Unexplored: As the “Society” segment suggested above, almost everything about this species has yet to be explored. Since we don’t even have a basis for what their society, economy, history, or homeworld might be like, let’s stick to the Halaisi’s biology. Is there anything, internal or external that distinguishes them from other, more common near-human species? Is the crest on their head ceremonial, or a part of their body, because both could be equally as interesting. Do they have different organs like the Atoans, different colored blood like the Kiffar, or maybe they just have unique feet like the Theelin? There’s a lot of ways to set this species apart, as we already have an abundance of colorful near-human species with much more development and interesting lore.

Additional Notes: I will update this article as we inevitably learn more about the Halaisi, but until then, they do intrigue me. I can’t say they’re unique, as Rig Nema was easily mistaken for a Mirialan for years. However, if the head crest is actually a physical part of their biology, I might reconsider my stance on their individuality. As it stands, I am interested in what role they played in the galaxy (if any), as species weren’t usually introduced into Star Wars the Clone Wars without some indication that they would be explored in a future part of Star Wars media!

(This species was also based off of the original concept art for Mace Windu, which is just such a nice detail!)
