Daltarri

Last Updated: 12/4/2023

Name: Daltarri

Humanoid: No

Classification: Inesctoid

Homeworld: Daltarri

Coloration: Green

Biology: Daltarri were a sentient plant species hailing from the flora covered planet of the same name. They had beanpod-like bodies, with vines for appendages. Their multiple vine legs were very rudimentary, while their two vine arms split in two at the tip, being utilized as a form of hands. They had a wreath of discolored grass blades or leaves extending from their collar. Their heads were massive and split into three ridged segments, one for their “snoot” and mouth, and two for their large, blue compound eyes. Despite their very strange biological nature, they could still speak Basic seemingly without hinderance.

Lore: The Daltarri were allies of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. It is very possible that they held a seat in the Galactic Senate, although they did not contribute much to the war effort and were not involved in any of the wars or combat themselves. They valued the idea of “being allies” over almost anything else, and traded gifts to offworlders in an attempt to be friends.

Legends/Canon: The Daltarri only appear once in Star Wars Legends, and are not Canon.

Unexplored: If there was just a little bit more to go off of, we could really have a basis for our exploration. However, in this instance, we will first need to explore the groundwork for what makes up the Daltarri. What are their thoughts on major galactic events and wars? How and when did they evolve sentience, and at what point did they become involved in galactic politics? Are they considered a primitive or advanced species, and have they developed the technology needed for interstellar travel yet or do they rely on Republic crafts? What does their economy, societal structure, and culture look like? Do they have any strange or unique traditions or customs? And what did they do after the Clone Wars subsided? We’re they affected by the Empire? You can start to dive more into individual Daltarri characters once you have established these things.

Additional Notes: I really wish we had just a little bit more to work with. Their design is fairly unique, and I can only think of a handful of plant-based sentient species off the top of my head. But I really just don’t know enough about to them to say if they have potential to make for interesting Star Wars characters, as they seem to have a fairly simplistic set of goals and emotions. I suppose anyone can be interesting if you put enough work into their characterization and backstory. However, looking at it from the surface, it would be better to pick one of the hundreds of other more unique species allied with the Republic (I think the Parwan or even the Neti would be much better). But hey, if you want a species that needs to look specifically like green foliage, then this is the species for you!
