Kassk

Name: Kassk

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Reptilian

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Yellow

Biology: The Kassk were a reptilian species hailing from an unnamed and possibly hidden world. They shared many similarities with species such as the Trandoshan, the Phindian, and even the Lasat. They have scaly yellow skin, with much larger, darker scales on the outsides of their arms and legs. Their limbs themselves were elongated, with enlarged forearms and massive, four fingered hands. Their reptilian hands feet, sported sharp, pointed nails as well. The rest of their body was very flat and lean, possessing vaguely noticeable musculature, but seemingly no excess weight.

Their necks were thick, supporting their rather wide heads. The front of their face was flat in comparison to other reptilian species like the Saurin or Trandoshan. They possess long, vampire-like canine teeth on both their upper and lower jaw, the lower ones protruding from their mouth and creating what appears to be an underbite. Their nose was flat and wide, and they possessed a dark scaly segment that stretch from the bridge of their nose to the area where most species’ eyebrows would be. Their eyes were a bright green, and possessed small black pupils that almost seemed to recede into the cornea, very similar to that of the Lasat. The top and back of their heads were wide, segmented, and possessed patches of darker scales. They were also hairless, like most reptilian species. The Kassk seemed to have the ability to speak Basic, but further information about their reproduction, lifecycles, and lifespans is currently unknown.

Lore: Currently nothing is known about the Kassk society. There is a fairly good chance they have at least some relation to the similarly named Hassk species, but that is the extent of what we know. The one instance of a Kassk in the Star Wars universe so far has existed during the Cold War era, so this could suggest that they were only recently integrated into the galactic landscape, or may have kept to themselves in or around the Outer Rim, Wild Space, or even the Unknown Regions.

Legends/Canon: The Kassk were introduced in Canon via the Star Wars Resistance animated series.

Unexplored: This section is always difficult when we only have access to one member of a specific species, as it is reasonable to assume that they are an outlier and not representative of their race as a whole. And as it stands, the one instance of a Kassk seen in Canon, Vurk, doesn’t really give too much away about his people. So, as always, we First need to lay some groundwork in the form of revealing and exploring the Kassk homeworld, society, galactic status, history, traditions, etc.

From there we can delve into more specific questions such as, when they were discovered, did they ever ally themselves with factions like the Resistance or First Order, do they have a relationship with the Hassk similar to that of the Trandoshans and the Wookiees, and does their lean, reptilian biology allow for any special attributes or feats? Once we start to explore these concepts, we can get a better idea of who the Kassk are, and whether it would be optimal to include them in as story, or better to just choose from the many, much more fleshed out and understandable reptilian species of the galaxy.

Additional Notes: The Kassk have a unique enough design, and the fact that they share a similar character model to that of the Lasat intrigues me. But as stated above, there’s just not enough information about them to determine whether they would be good to include in a story or not, at least as anything more than a background reference or passerby. In the meantime, I can recommend a dozen, much more interesting reptilian species to include in your story due to the extensive lore that surrounds them. I think the deciding factor is how much freedom and/or structure you want in regards to the species of the character you are intending to create.
