Name: Frecker
Humanoid: No
Classification: Beast (Rodent)
Homeworld: Unknown
Coloration: Brown
Biology: The Freckers were a small weasel-like species that could be found throughout the galaxy, but were often overlooked because of their size. Standing somewhere between .3 and .6 meters tall, they had slender bodies and pointed, seemingly prehensile tails. Their fur was short and brown, with a longer mane-like head of dark brownish-black hair (although at least once they were depicted without this additional long hair). They also had blue bright blue blood and internals. Freckers possessed small, beady black or red eyes, long faces ending in flat snouts, and two to three sets of tusk-like teeth extending from their lower jaws. They also had three-fingered hands and two-toed feet sport sharp claws that they would use to slash at prey and quarries. They were incredibly quick and agile, and possessed extreme stamina and dexterity. They also had the ability to pronounce Basic, although they were also still very animalistic in nature.
Lore: It is unclear where the Freckers originated from, but they could be found in small clans on certain criminal-ridden planets. They were usually very bloodthirsty and made fantastic assassins as they were small, sneaky, incredibly quick, and had no qualms with killing. Many larger species saw them as savage and lesser than, although the Freckers didn’t seem to mind and fully embraced this animalistic lifestyle. Their services could be hired for very cheap, or sometimes they were just actually simply bought and sold like animals.
Legends/Canon: The Freckers are not Canon, although they may have possibly inspired small Canon species known as the Bonbraks.
Unexplored: With a unique species like this, there are some different things to explore. For starters, do they have an actual civilization/society on their homeworld, or did they simply form as a secondary species overshadowed by a larger, more powerful sentient local? Were they all captured, enslaved, and sold at some point in the past, spreading out across the galaxy like we see them now? Or did they spread out of their own volition? Are there worlds like Nar Shaddaa or Tatooine where they’re most common, or are they equally hidden around the galaxy? Why are they seemingly naturally violent? Is it because of how they’re treated, a result of cultural practices, or simply because they only very recently evolved sentience and are still adjusting to civility? Finally, are they a stereotypical animalistic and carnivorous species, or do they actually use the credits they are paid for being assassins to live rather luxurious lives?
Additional Notes: Small species like this always interest me. The designs aren’t anything incredibly memorable, but maybe that’s the point. They are still very similar to animals, and because they both appear and act in this manner, the rest of the galaxy discriminates against them and sees them as lesser. It could be interesting to explore an individual Frecker and see whether they mind the way they are often treated, whether they could care less, or even if they are able to comprehend something like oppression. Definitely interesting directions you could take a Frecker character!
