Name: Majan
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Baroonda
Coloration: Red, Orange, or Brown
Biology: The Majan were considered very similar to average humans, aside from a few key aspects. Their skin was usually maroon, tan, or brownish-orange in color. Their hair was always black or a very dark brown. They also possessed four-fingered hands, and three ear lobes per ear. Aside from that, they had the same height and build of humans, as well as lifespans and internal biology. It is very likely that they were compatible to breed with other humans or very near-human species.
Lore: The Majans were seldom explored during their few appearances throughout Star Wars Legends. We do know that the majority of the species lived on only one small portion of their marshy jungle homeworld, Baroonda, specifically in the massive coastal city of Baroo. Baroo was located on a large continent of the same name, and was surrounded by the ruins of an even larger ruined city known as Nazwa, although not much is known about this ancient wonder. Podracing was very popular on Baroonda, and they profited heavily from hosting local tournaments. Aside from that, we only know that many Majans were religious and wore elaborate robes, headdresses, and other colorful clothing, and they served and worshipped a Priestess who apparently ruled over much of the planet.
Legends/Canon: The Majans only appear in Legends Star Wars material at the moment.
Unexplored: Interestingly enough, it might be good to start by exploring their biology further. Are there any further internal differences, or are they more similar to humans than most others. Are they compatible to create hybrid Majan-Human children? Are they descendants from ancient humans, possibly from Nazwa, or did they evolve from a local species and just happened to come out very close to humans? And what are the purposes of the three earlobes, are they sensory organs or simply vestigials.
As far as everything else, what is Baroonda like? We know that it has multiple continents and massive oceans, but no specifics about either. Why do most Majans live in one location? Was there some major catastrophe that drove them there, is it simply uninhabitable, or is there another local species (sentient or not) that is hostile to the Majans? How did they get involved with podracing, and did the general population initially approve of bringing the races to their homeworld or were they apprehensive? Were the Majans connected to the rest of the galaxy outside of the podracing scene, were they within the Republic/Empire’s jurisdiction, or were they neutral or independent? Did the podraces create a sustainable tourism industry, or did Baroonda have other major exports that fueled their economy? And finally, did they have any unique religious beliefs, traditions, and/or cultural practices?
Additional Notes: There’s not much else to say about the Majans. They were definitely intended to be a one-off species, but they did inadvertently open up a number of new mysteries regarding the Majan’s place in the galaxy, their dense population pockets, and the existence of the Nazwa megacity.
