Name: Demirian
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Demir
Coloration: Tan or Brown
Biology: The Demirians were a near-human, or possibly human, species that could be found on the planet Demir. We know almost nothing about them, including whether they are fully human or just very similar. Their pigmentation, build, and height were generally the same as humans, although all the ones we have seen so far also seem to have some sort of bionic implants or augmentations. It is currently unclear how they affect or enhance the Demirians, and if they are necessary for survival, a longtime cultural practice, or even just something relegated to the few Demirian freedom fighters we have seen so far.
Lore: Nothing much is known about the Demirians. Their homeworld of Demir was an incredibly ore-rich planet, with iron being their main export. Their world was very industrial and they relied on all sorts of large, iron structures and foundries, as well as heavy armor and cybernetic implants. At some point during the Cold War, the First Order invaded Demir. The Demirians opposed them and put up a valiant fight, but in the end they were slaughtered and their iron was commandeered by Captain Phasma and her troops.
Legends/Canon: The Demirians only appearance has been in Star Wars Canon.
Unexplored: I’m not really sure where to start with the Demirians. We know so little about them, and there’s nothing noteworthy about them besides from the fact that they were absolutely decimated during their first appearance, so the first thing we need to do is make them interesting. Was Demir simply known for its iron industry, or were there other reasons why they were known to the galaxy? Were they a very industrial species full of miners and engineers, or was this a very limited look at the populous? Were the species actually just human or recent descendants of humans, or was there some biological trait that set them apart?
Along those lines, the Demirians just need more artistic exploration in general. We need more illustrations to tell how they look, as well as their unique armor and possible cybernetic implants. A good design could instantly make them a hundred times more memorable. Finally, what was their role in the galaxy? Were they ever a part of the Republic or CIS or even supporters of the Empire? And how many of them survived the First Order invasion? Was it treated as a major planetary event or a minor skirmish, and how did losing some of their iron foundries affect their economy, both local and galactic?
Additional Notes: This species was definitely created to be simply a one-off plot device, but here at thatstarwarsauthor.com we have to explore them regardless. At the moment, they are incredibly forgettable, and we most likely won’t see them again, but if we do, I hope they get a revamp both in appearance and lore.
