Kudon

Name: Kudon

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beast (Canine/Ovine)

Homeworld: Kudo III

Coloration: Blue, Gray, Green, Brown, or Tan

Biology: The Kudon were a beast-like humanoid that could be found on the moon of Kudo III. Their bodies generally resembled that of an average human, with the same body shape and height. Their skin, however, was covered in a thin layer of fine hairs that came in a variety of pale colors. Their hands were human-like, however their feet were wide with four toes and large claws. The Kudon’s elongated heads resembled a hybrid of a dog and a goat. They had razor sharp teeth, wide noses, and defined brows. Unlike their body hair, they also grew a head of hair much like a human. It grew fast and long, and was often red, brown, or black. They also had spiraled, ram-like horns growing from the sides of their heads, and long, pointed ears. They seemed to have a lifespan similar to that of humans, and they had the capacity to speak Basic.

Lore: The Kudon were a relatively primitive species that could be found in villages dotting the surface of the small moon of Kudo III found in the Kudo System. They did not have advanced technologies or any sort of space faring vehicles, and while they had interacted with off-worlders for sometime, they rarely ever left Kudo III. During the Clone Wars, the Separatists invaded their homeworld and enslaved a large portion of the population to use as workers for their battle droid foundry. The CIS led the Republic to believe that the Kudon had sided with them of their own free will, however, the Jedi (specifically Anakin Skywalker) did not fall for it and freed all of the Kudon slaves.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Empire moved into the Kudon System and set up a mining facility on Kudon proper. They presumably enslaved the Kudon people once again, but we have no further details about that situation. A few Kudon have moved out into the galaxy and made names for themselves by the start of the Cold War with the First Order. It is unclear what happened to the majority of the Kudon, or how many of them were left after the fall of the Empire.

Legends/Canon: The Kudon only exist in Canon, introduced in a handful of newer Star Wars comics.

Unexplored: The Kudon have gotten more expansion than most of the sentient species introduced in the Canon comics and books, however, there’s still a lot left open for exploration. How technologically advanced were the Kudon by the start of the Clone Wars or even the High Republic? Did many travel offworld or did they stay relegated to their home system prior to their enslavement? It’s uncommon for a species to form on a planet’s moon but not the planet itself, so what is the reasoning for that? Was Kudon non-hospitable and Kudon III simply perfect for developing life? Or did they somehow migrate or colonize the moons and we just haven’t fully explored them yet?

Did they ever join the Republic following the CIS invasion, or did they remain independent until the Empire swooped in to gather them up again? Had the Kudon suffered from any other galactic conflicts, maybe with neighboring systems or even just civil wars? Was their economy primarily based around the export of ores, or did they have other produce/products that were valued by the galactic market? How did their governmental system work, and were they split into countries, conflicts, and/or districts, or was it more of a planetary government and society? What happened to Kudon III during the Cold War and beyond, and were they ever allied with the likes of the New Republic or Resistance?

Additional Notes: The Kudon holding an interesting place in Star Wars Canon, being utilized fairly often but almost completely unknown by most fans, which is definitely a shame. I really like their coloration and general design, even if it is a tad basic. There’s a lot you could do with a Kudon character, and they already have some pretty tragic pre-established lore to boot. So why not give them a chance in your next Star Wars fan work, especially if you try to strictly adhere to Canon?
