Dupei

Last Updated: 12/4/2023

Name: Dupei

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Beast (Rodent)

Homeworld: Unknown

Coloration: Brown

Biology: The Dupei were a mysterious hairy species that could be found throughout the galaxy. They stood approximately the same height as an average human, if not slightly shorter, and their entire bodies were covered in long, brown hair. We don’t know specifically what their bodies looked like, however we do know they were bipedal with two arms and two legs. Their necks were not visible underneath their fur and their heads were very large and rounded. They had surprisingly human-like face proportions, however they also possessed two sets of nostrils on their noses. They had the capacity to speak Basic and while they were very religious, their natural midi-chlorian levels are currently unknown.

Lore: We know nothing of the Dupei homeworld or the majority of the species. A group of Dupei monks could be found on the jungle planet Nameel, however, that was not their original homeworld. The only thing we know is that they were a religious species, and had some disputes with the Trandoshans, specifically Trandoshan monks also found on Nameel.

Legends/Canon: The Dupei are a relatively new addition to Canon.

Unexplored: This is one of those species that might be better left alone. The religious mystery might be part of the appeal, but it would still be nice to know at least a little more. This includes learning about their homeworld, determining whether these monks were the standard for Dupei or social outliers, understanding if they had some sort of political alliance, and maybe establishing what some of their traditions were, religious or not. Also, like the Wookiees, do they have some sort of negative relationship with the Trandoshans? That could be very interesting to explore.

Additional Notes: The Dupei definitely stand out as far as furry sentient species go, with those slightly unsettling humanoid faces. There’s still not much to go off of here, but it would be interesting to see one who is anything other than a Monk. That would give us a good indication of their overall position as a species and society.
