Paigun

Last Updated: 12/4/2023

Name: Paigun

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Alternative

Homeworld: Paigu

Coloration: Green

Biology: The Paigun were a tall, intelligent humanoid named after their homeworld of Paigu. They were very similar in appearance to the Muun, standing at an above average 1.8 – 2.4 meters tall, possessing a thin frame, gangly, long digits, and an elongated cranium. Distinctions include green pigmentation, scale-like skin, and the presence of sparse hair unlike the Muuns. They also lacked any muscle mass and a true neck, had a small but visible nose, and beady eyes with noticeable bags underneath. Despite not being amphibious, they were technically related to frog or toad-like species. They had a large brain and were highly intelligent, being able to speak and process a number of languages including Basic and their native language of Paigu.

Lore: The Paiguns were known for being an incredibly intelligent but lazy and selfish species. They had incredible memories, were fantastic strategists, and understood most advanced technology. Much like the Givins, they also found enjoyment in solving mathematical problems and computations, and valued logic and a sound mind. While many were mechanics and engineers, they only handled smaller tasks, generally trying to employ others to work on larger projects on their behalf. The same could be said for how they handled conflicts, hating war and fighting themselves but have no qualms with recruiting other non-Paiguns to fight on their behalf.

The Paiguns were most prominent during the Old Republic era, although it is unclear if they were a part of the Republic or not. Their homeworld, Paigu, was plagued with constant lightning storms, and the Paiguns were forced to create advanced technologies to combat it and protect themselves. Specialized technicians known as “Amptechs” built and maintained immense lightning rods that powered their entire civilization. The Paiguns were also often employed by outside corporations to serve as high level engineers.

Legends/Canon: The Paiguns only exist only in a select few pieces of Star Wars Legends material.

Unexplored: The Paiguns really haven’t been explored much, and there’s not too much to set them apart visually from the Muuns or distinguish them lore-wise from species like the Givins or Sluissi. We need to develop them in distinct ways, starting with their economy. Is there some sort of export related to their technology or even the lightning storms that could be unique or interesting? Maybe anti-lightning technology that could protect Jedi from Sith attacks, or even a special lightning-produced glass product/glass based Lightsaber Crystal?

Secondly, what kind of special traditions or cultural habits do they practice? Would it be related to mind games or mathematics or even something regarded to technology? How did they view or interact with non-Paiguns. Did they view other, dumber species as inferior, or did they try to share their knowledge? Who exactly did they use to do their dirty work, especially to fight for them? Was it slaves, unfortunate offworlders, volunteers, or were they a rich species who was able to hire a private army? What kind of politics did they engage in? How was their planet split up continent/country wise, if at all? And were they a part of the Galactic Republic, an opposing faction, or completely independent? With a lot of these on-off species, there are a lot of little details you can explore to make them 100x more interesting!

Additional Notes: There’s nothing incredibly noteworthy about this species, but they’re also not hard to expand upon either. They could easily be Canonized, given in-depth lore, and could make for a very interesting species with a lot of galactic contributions. After all, there really aren’t that many frog-based species out there in Canon OR Legends.
