Name: Jin’ha
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Near-Human
Homeworld: Obredaan
Coloration: Unknown
Biology: The Jin’ha were a mysterious humanoid species that could be found on the ore-rich planet of Obredaan. They appeared to be Human-like, but with slight larger hands and feet, as well as what seemed to be a longer neck. No other details are known about their biology, as they have never been seen without their full-body suits.
Lore: The Jin’ha seemed to be naturally born laborers and miners. We don’t really know anything about their culture, society, or politics, but their economy seemed to revolve around the excavation, refinement, and sale of the anti-lightsaber material known as Cortosis. They had dealings with criminal gangs as well as the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS), and fought against the Republic and the Jedi when they invaded Obredaan, but it is unclear if they had any true political allegiance during the Clone Wars. They were known for being a very secretive and mysterious species, and it is very possible that they never took their armor off around non-Jin’ha similarly to certain sects of the Mandalorians, although this was never fully confirmed.
Legends/Canon: The Jin’ha have only appeared once in Star Wars Legends, and have yet to be Canonized.
Unexplored: This is one of those species where certain aspects are actually better left unexplored to perpetuate that air of mysteriousness. However, things like some of their traditions and practices can still be expanded upon. Did they have a centralized government or were they more nomadic and tribal? We know they had some level of technological expertise, but how advanced were they as a whole? We’re they still in their “industrial revolution phase” or had they developed advanced technology like space travel and hyperdrives? What were their views on the different factions throughout galactic history, and were they affected by the Empire, New Republic, First Order, Nihil, pirates, or anyone else seeking their precious Cortosis?
Additional Notes: There’s not much to this species, but sometimes that’s okay. It’s sort of like the Jawas, where they wouldn’t make great protagonists in any story, but are a good supporting species with their predetermined role and you really don’t have to know any more about them. Since Cortosis is now Canon, I would love to see them appear in some material down the road, even if it’s just a minor role or passing mention.
