Ubuugan

Name: Ubuugan

Humanoid: No

Classification: Alternative/Dwarf

Homeworld: Ubuuga

Coloration: Dark Gray or Yellow

Biology: The Ubuugans were a large sentient species originating from the planet Ubuuga. They were bipedal, possessing two arms and legs. Their bodies were a rather wide, with leathery gray or yellow skin and large features. At the end of their long arms they had large hands with chubby fingers and small, gray fingernails, seemingly three per hand. Conversely, their legs were short and stubby, ending in massive, two-toed feet. Their stature was surprisingly short, despite their imposing side, and they stood with an incredibly hunched posture.

Their heads were large and possessed three small trunks or snoots, similar to those found on the Kubaz. Above each of these trunks was a small eye overshadowed by a massive, singular brow. This brow extended around their head and tapered off into some sort of head flap or possibly elephant-esque ears. What the back of their head looks like is unknown, but the entirety of their head and face was gray and slightly lumpy.

We know that, unlike most species with trunks, they could actually speak and pronounce Basic through their snoots. They could also eat something with one trunk while speaking out of another. The Ubuugans secreted potent toxins that protected them from the deadly Ubuugan Fleshborer insects found on their homeworld. In fact, they had built up such an immunity to the Fleshborers that they treated them as an edible delicacy.

Lost: Not much is known about the Ubuugan society, and it would seem they rarely left their homeworld or ever had many travelers come to visit them. Ubuuga itself was known for being rather hazardous for offworlders, and the native Ubuugan Fleshborers usually eviscerated any non-Ubuugans who overstayed their welcome. We do know that the Ubuugan people were rather wealthy, rarely wore clothes, and exported large quantities of caviar to the rest of the galaxy. At least some hired themselves out as muscle for criminals, appearing to be rather skilled in this regard.

Legends/Canon: The Ubuugans have yet to be made Canon, relegated to only to a few obscure appearances within Star Wars Legends.

Unexplored: So there’s quite a lot of questions we can ask here. What is Ubuuga like? How are their cities structured, what is the terrain like, where do the Fleshborers live, and are there a lot of oceans or other natural bodies of water where they extract the special caviar? What kind of animal lays said caviar that is exported, and exactly how wealthy might the Ubuugans because of this industry? Of course, we also have to know what exactly the rest of their bodies look like? Were their toxins potent enough to affect nearby non-Ubuugans? How did they evolve alongside the Fleshborers before they had developed the toxin without all being killed? And did any ever leave their homeworld or were they ever involved with any galactic powers like the Republic or Empire?

Additional Notes: The idea of a toxic species is fairly unique, and their relation with the Ubuugan Fleshborers (as well as their caviar production) is a fairly fun twist with a lot of potential for further expansion. The name Ubuugan is also incredibly fun to say aloud. I like this species, I just wish we had gotten to see more of them, both in number and just their appearance in general. Here’s to hoping they will be Canonized someday, or that at the very least, someone will attempt to create an accurate, detailed, full-bodied depiction of them.
