Moragan

Name: Moragan

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Reptilian

Homeworld: Moraga

Coloration: Green

Biology: The Moragans are a very turtle-esque species that are found throughout the galaxy. They possess different shades of green, smooth skin. Their feet are presumably turtle-like and their hands have three long fingers seemingly lacking fingernails. They have thick necks and only slightly visible chins, although their chins are much more pronounced when they are younger. They have wide mouths with lips that don’t seem to have the capacity to actually close fully, and bright white teeth lining the inside of said mouths. Their nostrils are actually located on their foreheads, and they possess no physical nose. Their wide eyes are a bright yellow, that is possibly luminescent, and they do not possess visible pupils. Despite being turtle-like, it would appear that they do not actually possess any form of keratin shell, and their backs are instead the same smooth, green flesh as the rest of their bodies.

Lore: Not much is known about the Moragans, aside from the fact that they were a very peaceful people. They were present in the known galaxy during the Clone Wars, but seemed to remain impartial and open to any faction. When the Empire came into control, they initially seemed unphased. However, as time went on, their world was touched by the Galactic Civil War, and they began allying themselves with select Rebel Cells. The Empire captured some of the Moragans, and at least one family was forced to flee and relocated on the watery world of Kaller. Moragans had a very specific naming convention, with all of their names beginning with “Mor.” For example: Morfizo or Morfizia.

Legends/Canon: The Moragans only exist within the current Star Wars Canon (and technically one Visions non-Canon continuity).

Unexplored: So there is definitely some good setup for the species that wasn’t fully realized, which is what we can base some of our unexplored ideas upon. We know the Moragans were known during the Clone Wars, but did they take a side? Are they all peaceful, or did they possess a militia as well, especially if they were neutral? What is their economy based off of, how is their society run, and what makes up their culture and traditions? What are their thoughts about each of the wars? Were they affected by the Galactic Empire, or even enslaved by the Zygerrian Empire for being a generally welcoming species? Did the entire race/planet ally themselves with the Rebellion, or just select individuals? And what did those Rebel Cells look like/were the Moragans proficient in combat? Did they join the New Republic? What did the Kalleran think of the offworld Moragans relocating to their homeworld? And were the Moragans affected by, or fight against the First Order?

Additional Notes: It may not be the most inspired, but I do like the design for this species. The lack of the shell, their slick features, and the yellow eyes add to their uniqueness. As for backstory, at the moment a lot is left up to the imagination. I wouldn’t say they have any amazing design potential as a species, but I do think they have the potential to have potential as a great and memorable Star Wars species, but there’s still some really fun stuff to work with here! (I also like to brag that I was the first person to notice a Jedi who strongly resembled a Moragan in the Star Wars Visions Season 2 Episode “Journey to the Dark Head.” When tweeting out this theory, Studio Mir, who created this episode, then quote tweeted said find saying “Such a keen eye!” which I 100% take as confirmation that this was and is intended to be a member of the species!)
