Mirialan

Last Updated: 1/29/2024 (INCOMPLETE)

Name: Mirialan

Humanoid: Yes

Classification: Near-Human

Homeworld: Mirial

Coloration: Green, Yellow, Pink, or Purple

Biology: Mirialan’s biology is nearly identical to that of a human in every way. Thus, they can reproduce together and create human-Mirialan hybrid children. Their skin pigmentation is their most defining trait, with most being a light to dark green in color. It is also possible for them to be purple, pink, yellow, or a dark olive as well. Their skin is generally more durable than that of most human-like species, as they have adapted to their home world’s harsh dry and and cold weather. They were also generally more flexible, strong, and agile than other similar species, and due to the intense nature of their homeworld, they rarely if ever became overweight.

Their height and hair color was consistent with that of humans, while their eyes could be green, blue, gray, brown, yellow, orange, red, or even purple. All Mirialans had a small, natural connection to the Force, meaning their midi-chlorian count was generally much higher than the average being. The markings on their face are often mistaken as biological occurrences, however, Mirialans are born with clear skin, and the markings are cultural tattoos that most of the species acquire at a young age.

Lore: Mirialan society as a whole is generally build around the principles of spirituality and tradition. Many became priests or priestesses, practiced healing and prophetic techniques, and had a generally strong connection to the Force (but only few having a strong enough connection to become actual Jedi).

Their religions and traditions revolves heavily around their primitive understand of the Force in general, with no particular preference towards light or dark. Almost every Mirialan had some form of geometric based design tattooed onto their hands and face, with only the most rebellious and troublesome choosing not to. These tattoos were earned, commemorating a time when the individual Mirialan did something substantially noteworthy, such as a heroic action or a breakthrough discovery. Some stopped getting tattoos once they earned their first, and treated that as their greatest accomplishment and pinnacle of their life, while others kept compiling a collection of them to remember each major event in their life.

On their homeworld of Mirial, the tattoos meant everything. The more you had, the higher your social status was. And there were special historic artists who knew exactly how to shape, number, and place each tattoo, with even slight variations in design and number symbolizing very different things.

From the Old Republic (Legends) and High Republic (Canon) eras up until the beginning of the Clone Wars, the Mirialans opened their planet up as a safe place for refugees. They also closely aligned themselves with Republic from that time until the rise of the Empire. Near the very beginning of the Clone Wars, they engaged in a territorial battle with neighboring planets, and ultimately came out victorious due to the efforts of the pirate Arwen Cohl, who became revered among the Mirialans from that point forward. They also at least partially aligned themselves with the New Republic until the destruction of the Hosnian System.

Legends/Canon: The majority of their history remained the same during the shift from EU to Canon, with only their history with the Old Republic being removed. The inclusion of additional colorations aside from green (and yellow-green or olive-green) was also added with the current Canon, leading to a more varied look for the species as a whole.

Unexplored: Most of what makes up Mirialans have been explored to some extent, with their only real defining traits being their spirituality and tattoos. The idea that their world was a safe place for refugees, and though that is now non-canonical, is very interesting and has only been lightly explored a few times within the current Star Wars canon. The status of their culture from the Galactic Civil War onwards is unknown at this time, so that would be a great place to expand upon the multiculturalism and refugee aspect of Mirial and the Mirialans.

With their connection to the Force, it is very likely that Darth Vader May have been dispatched to deal with them as potential threats. So the greatest unexplored area of this species would be their fate as of the end of the Clone Wars.
