Name: Frenk
Humanoid: Yes
Classification: Reptilian
Homeworld: Gorobei
Coloration: Green, Pink, Blue, or Brown
Biology: Frenk were lanky, reptilian creatures found throughout the galaxy. They often stood over 2 meters in height, with incredibly thin arms, legs, and a noticeably thin waist as well. They normally did not gain any excess fat, and any extra body weight they gained was due to muscle. Frenk were agile, quick, and incredibly flexible, similar in biology to the Terrelian Jango Jumpers.
Their skin could be a wide range of natural colors, probably attributed to camouflage adaptation or evolution. They could also have mottled spots, lines, or symmetrical dots on their head and arms, although this was not always the case. Their heads were a strange triangular, arrows shape. They did not grow hair on their bodies, aside from eye lashes. Their eyes take on a very snake-like appearance, either having blue pupils or being solid blue and pupil-less. Their nose was long, with four nostril slits instead of the regular two. Their chin hung down over their incredibly long necks, and they had small mouths with wide lips. They also had the capability to speak Galactic Basic without issue.
Lore: Not much is known about the Frenk society or history. They did have a rather impressive defense force, known simply as the “Frenk Military.” It would seem that most Frenks native to Gorobei were required to serve in this military at some point in their lives, unless they were incredibly rich or well-to-do. After serving time in the Frenk Military, many ex-soldiers became galactic mercenaries or bounty hunters, unable to fully escape their uprbirnging rooted in violence. The Frenks remained neutral during the Clone Wars, although they were often at odds with the Republic, and at least one powerful Frenk colluded with Count Dooku and the Separatist Alliance, possibly hinting towards a more widespread sentiment.
Legends/Canon: Frenk were introduced late into Star Wars Legends, although they made the transition to Canon fairly easily. When I first wrote this article, the species’ homeworld, Gorobei, had yet to have been mentioned in Canon, but it has since made the jump as well!
Unexplored: The Frenk are actually quite fascinating yet mysterious. The idea of required military service could be a great place to explore real world topics. And it’s not too often you find a species that remained neutral during the Clone Wars, but leaned towards the CIS. Their homeworld itself has never actually been explored either, and while their biology would indicate it is probably a jungle or marshy world, it’s still up to speculation. So let’s start by answering questions about their origins, world and environments, evolutionary history, native fauna, flora, or even additional sentient species, whether naturally or colonists, as well as their general lifestyles on Gorobei.
They also need some artistic exploration, as we have never actually seen a male or juevenile Frenk before. Exploring how their military works, what their ranks are, what kind of warships or planetary defenses they have, and what their soldiers and armor look like would also be fascinating. Aside from all these, you can still explore more about their flexible anatomy, their species’ history, their society, economy, culture, civilizations, traditions, etc. There’s a lot that needs to be explored here, and the groundwork for intrigue has already been laid! Now we just need to see more Frenk characters, especially spread out across different galactic eras.
Additional Notes: The more I dug into the Frenk, the more I appreciated the species as whole. For the most part, they came off as a one-off species for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, used when the creators needed an extra bounty hunter or mercenary. However, the more they appeared the more interesting they became, and the more I wanted to see them explored as a whole. Definitely consider adding a Frenk to your next Star Wars story and really take advantage of the lore potential they have to offer!
